TicketFly gives Ticketmaster a run for its money

Ticketmaster and Livenation dominate concert sales, but TicketFly is starting to emerge as a competitor. The ticket seller is offering a faster, less expensive ticketing system that’s easier to use. The real question is, though, if TicketFly and other competitors could be able to topple the Ticketmaster tower.

TicketFly gets defectors

Since its 2008 founding, TicketFly has been busy putting its $ 3 million in funding to good use. The first order of business was “poaching” about 50 venues from Ticketmaster/Livenation. Numerous venues ultimately control who gets to sell their tickets. These “poached” venues helped TicketFly get their sales began. TicketFly claims to charge much less in both “printing fees” and “convenience fees.” Most people remember Ticketmaster only for the high fees that are charged above and beyond the ticket cost. There are lawsuits claiming Ticketmaster has a monopoly, but they continue to add concert promotion packages.

TicketFly’s promises

TicketFly has made numerous promises about prices and function. Just on the basis of fees, TicketFly tickets will cost 30 percent less than Ticketmaster. If you talk about your TicketFly purchase on social media websites, they’ll give you a ticket price discount. TicketFly also promises fast updates of ticket information. In short, TicketFly promises that it could be less expensive and easier to use for everyone involved.

TicketFly and Virgin pair up for FreeFest

TicketFly partnered with Virgin Mobile to distribute free FreeFest tickets. Virgin Mobile sent out emails with codes for free tickets to anyone who had attended a previous festival. The second set of pre-sales start on July 24 at 10 a.m.. Virgin Mobile’s choice to use TicketFly is a big business move. The decision of Virgin Mobile to use TicketFly was a big decision, since Ticketmaster / Livenation controls over half of the venues in the country.
